Web 13.0 Video

Published by Martin Pluss under Web 2.0

Hi all,

Here are some thoughts of Web 13.0, though for some reason I said Web 13.1 for the first two mentions. Enjoy.

Wagga Wagga Conference

Published by Martin Pluss under Web 2.0

Hi all,

Last Wednesday and Thursday I headed to Wagga Wagga for the last of three rolling Country Conferences for the GTANSW .

The Wednesday night was in The Manor where I stayed.

The next day was at the very modern Council Chambers.

And a few of us had some fun in the Mayor’s Chair- apologies to Queen Elizabeth.

It is humbling that people in western NSW travel 100s of km to listen to people like me talk about technology and Geography. I did my talk on Traditional and Emerging Learning Technology which I later reveal , for web products, is Web 1.0 and Web 2.0. Then I talked about how Web 13.0 can be used to help rationalise and prioritise Web 2.0 tools.

Macquarie University Education 261 Presentation

Published by Martin Pluss under Geography, Web 2.0

HI all,

Last Wednesday I did the 4:00pm university guest lecture on BLogs, Wikis and Podcasts in Education.

Here is the audio

Here is an audio of my presentation.audio_red.gif

I showed examples of ICT integration from K-12 and then gave a few tips on Web 2.0 tools. I generally try to motivate them and their use of technology.

I asked how many had a blog and none did!

On the walk in from the ‘long distance car park’ the geographer in me noticed two things.

Firstly, Ryde Council’s attempt to cash in on the parking was failing. They have 12 hour parking spots and they cost a fair bit. As if uni students will pay. Even after 6 months people are not paying to park on the road between the university and the M2. Like me, they all park to the north taking all the parking for those in units and townhouses.

Secondly, in the dip in the above photo there is a great example of creek and gully erosion on university grounds.

Dubbo Conference Feedback

Published by Martin Pluss under Geography, Web 2.0

Hi all,

Here is the feedback from the Dubbo Conference and I have stuck to the Web 13.0 theme.

Comments

  • All resources/areas of study can be implemented following planning/organisation of curriculum. Very useful information/planning ideas
  • Resources useful in relations to making Geography much more interesting
  • Resources could be used throughout Stages 4-5. Excellent platforms for support/build upon existing resources and knowledge
  • Resources on Global Education will really help teachers especially the actions the Australian Government takes overseas
  • Brilliant dinner presentation
  • Bangalore excellent
  • Presentation on ICT challenging (in an inspirational way) – some great ideas
  • All presentations were food but were rushed, I got the impression, for example, a bloke like Martin Pluss could have spoken all day and all of us teachers would got an enormous amount out of it
  • Was inspired by your enthusiasm

Suggestions

  • How to conduct a really successful RAP with a Stage 5 class
  • How to handle the School Certificate exam
  • Less lecturing more practical
  • Practical things kept it interesting

If youa re interested in seeing what this is all about go to the GTANSW webpage
cheers Martin
